Recap and analysis of the 3 townhall meetings from 10/15

So, I watched Biden live and then Trump on YouTube. I was going to get into their respective performances but it wasn't anything surprising. I have six quick takes.

1. Biden did well handling the majority of questions and outlined his plans well.

2. Shoot them in the leg is a dumb idea and not a de-escalation method.

3. Trump was not prepared for the opening questions and appeared evasive.

4. Trump recovered from a slow start well and had several very good answers throughout the debate.

5. The moderator for Trump was noticeably more hostile than the one for Biden.

6. Neither won. They didn't do anything other than repeat what the base wants to hear and did nothing to change anyone's mind.

Then, Jo Jorgensen happened. She went live on Twitter with a virtual town hall and stole the show. She started with taking shots at Biden, proceeded to hammer Trump, and did it all on policy. She did not take a single shot at either candidate for being a racist, pedophile, or rapist. She also did not mention nepotism, dementia, corruption, or stuttering. It was a beautiful hour of straight policy differences. It was everything that debates used to be. She also used every question to hammer home her approach to federal government. Her approach? We need less of it. On everything from military spending to immigration to trade the answer is we need less federal government involvement. It was refreshingly simple and easy to understand. Jo also addressed the elephant in the room that most politicians ignore. The Democrat and Republican politicians in Washington do not share the values/ideas of the Democrat and Republican voters in the rest of the country. This is such a true, simple statement that every politician in the last 30 years has overlooked. The House, The Senate, The President all do the same thing. They run their campaign ads, give their speeches, ask for votes, and then go to Washington and spend money we don't have. It doesn't matter if they wear a red tie or a blue one, Washington is no longer in touch with the rest of the country. That is a message that resonated with me and I feel will resonate with people across the country and the political spectrum. Her message has the same appeal for the hardcore 2nd Amendment, law and order voter as it does for the hardcore Antifa, BLM, defund the police voter. Less federal government and more local control. It was a breath of fresh air in what has been one of the ugliest presidential campaigns I have ever seen. The establishment is scared and there is a reason they won't let her debate. Call your Senators, call your Congressmen, and ask why Jo can't debate. People deserve to know that we have another option between angry orange man and confused old white guy. Stay safe everyone, get out and vote, and Hawkeye football is back next weekend!!

PS. For my long time readers, my tech guy is still doing well and I am still taking applications for his replacement.
