(Disclaimer: I understand that I am biased and want football played. That being said, there has been nothing released data wise that explains why football is unsafe.)

B1G commissioner Kevin Warren took the cowards way out and released a statement today, refusing all questions and interview requests. This decision was made in the face of growing outcry from fans, players, player parents, and coaches for more transparency regarding the decision to cancel fall sports. Warren could of came out, made his statement, and took questions, instead he released a statement, flipped everyone the bird, and left. It a ridiculous move from a guy that knows he made a bad a call. You can read his full statement if you would like, I'm going to include some excerpts below.

"The vote by the Big Ten Council of Presidents and Chancellors (COP/C) was overwhelmingly in support of postponing fall sports and will not be revisited."

There are multiple reports stating that a vote never occurred. Penn State's AD has said that he was unaware of any vote. The 12 - 2 vote initially reported was denied by a B1G spokesperson. Tell me when you voted and who voted which way and then I might believe that a vote happened. This is not a good first step for transparency.

"Transmission rates continue to rise at an alarming rate with little indication from medical experts that our campuses, communities or country could gain control of the spread of the virus prior to the start of competition"

I did a deep dive on the numbers in my previous blog(The Big 10 cancelled football) so I won't repeat the information again, but I have no idea what numbers or experts he is referring too. The CDC numbers do not support the season being okay when they released the schedule and not ok when they cancelled. This is fear mongering bullshit with no basis in publicly available data.

"As our teams were ramping up for more intense practices, many of our medical staffs did not think the interventions we had planned would be adequate to decrease the potential spread even with very regular testing."

What medical staffs? I have seen zero medical professionals directly involved with a B1G team say that it was unsafe. Nebraska, Michigan, and Ohio State have all publicly stated that they feel student-athletes would be safer playing. The only person with direct knowledge to state otherwise had "employed by the NCAA" behind his name so he is saying whatever he gets told to by the NCAA because he wants to keep his job. If the NCAA wants to pay me 6 figures, I will say what they tell me to as well.

"While the data on cardiomyopathy is preliminary and incomplete, the uncertain risk was unacceptable at this time."

I am not a doctor so I'm not gonna dive too deep on this one. This is Mayo Clinic's page about it. My two takeaways from that page is that there are several causes including use of anabolic steroids. I don't feel like it's too big a leap to think that the 5 cases out of the thousands of athletes might be from steroid use. It's also interesting that one of the few treatments is exercise. If only there was a place and environment we could send these kids that had individualized exercise programs, personal trainers, and medical staff on location and access to top notch medical care! That would be great.

"Financial considerations did not influence the COP/C decision, as the postponement will have enormous adverse financial implications"

This is the line that is why he released a statement instead of having a press conference. I believe it would be impossible to say this with a straight face. The B1G is a business. Financial considerations affect every business. This is a bald faced lie. Fire this guy already.

"Moving forward, we will continue to build upon the framework that our medical experts have developed over the past five months while we take the opportunity to learn more about the virus and its effects."

Ima say it louder for the people in the back one more time, WHAT FUCKING EXPERTS?!? YOU HAVE RELEASED NO SUPPORTING DATA OR SAID WHO THE EXPERTS ARE!!! Nebraska has released more information supporting playing the season than you have for cancelling. Jim Harbaugh has a better statement than you solely because he uses actual numbers and facts. Fire this guy immediately. Replace him with Geno Stone or Gary Barta for this season only and play ball.

The 61 year old potato farmer that stunned the world.

Ladies and gentlemen, sit back and hear the story of  Cliff Young . He has seemed to enter the realm of half myth, half truth that surrounds all greats but his story is remarkable. Full disclosure: I got this story from a guest pastor at church Sunday. Here we go.  In 1983, people were gathered for the Australia ultra marathon. A 543 mile race from Sydney to Melbourne. Most competitors were in their twenties or thirties and had extensive training and corporate sponserships. Into this group walked a 61 year old man wearing faded overalls and rubber work boots. His name was Cliff Young. He was a sheep and potato farmer from just outside Melbourne. Most considered him a joke at best, delusional at worst. Several journalists questioned if he would survive. This is where the myth/truth comes into play. Some accounts have him running in overalls. Others say he wore windbreakers with holes cut by hand for ventilation. One account claims he wore 10 pairs of running shoes throughout the race. W

B1G has cancelled football.

 The B1G and PAC 12 have cancelled fall sports.  Here  is the B1G official statement. I have been thinking about this and getting steadily more upset ever since 1:45 PM. This is horrible. I have avoided really shitting on the COVID-19 media coverage too much because I didn't want to deal with the trolling and "yOu THinK cOroNavIruS iS faKe IF yOu qUEstioN anYthIng!" crowd. I am done. Bring on the trolls. This decision has nothing to do with the coronavirus. The B1G, as a whole, is not concerned about player safety per coronavirus. Nothing has changed in the overall COVID-19 numbers between when they announced the season schedule and when they cancelled. The schedule was announced August 5. Per the  CDC report release July 31  hospitalization rate was 130.1 per 100,000 and mortality rate was 8.4% if you include pneumonia, influenza, and COVID-19 deaths.
