Iowa is coming for the West.

There is soccer. MLB is in training camp. NBA and NHL are back. I feel confident we will see college football in 9 weeks at Kinnick. Apparently CBSports has the beloved black and gold at 7-5 for the year. I disagree. Let's look at the schedule.

UNI @ Kinnick
This is almost always a closer game than expected, but the Hawkeyes will win. My only concern is that they sleep on this game, but I don't think Coach Kirk will let that happen.

Iowa State @ Kinnick
Iowa State will be good this year. They won't be good enough to win in Kinnick. It will be a tough game, but, as good as Purdy is, he doesn't have enough weapons to get past the Iowa defense. Petras is untested, but Iowa has never been a quarterback focused team. They will emerge victorious at home.

Minnesota @ Minnesota
The Gophers will definitely be looking for revenge after last year's loss at Kinnick, but it won't be enough. They definitely had a great run last year, but will take a step back this year. The offensive coordinator left for Penn State and the receiving core is one guy. They will be run heavy and that plays right into Iowa's strengths. Hawkeyes are 3-0 after this game.

Northern Illinois @ Kinnick
My main worry here is that the Huskies are not pushovers and we can not take this game for granted. Hawkeyes 4-0 going into.the MSU game.

Michigan State @ Kinnick
The Spartans are a shit show. NCAA violations, head coach resignation. The Hawks take care of business in Iowa City and improve to 5-0.

Ohio State @ Ohio State
This will be tough. Probaly the first L. Alot of this depends on Spencer Petras and the receiving core.  If Petras comes out completing 75% or better of passes and less than 5 interceptions going into this game? We have a different story. Still most likely a loss.

Penn State @ Penn State
This is the second of two very tough games. Penn State is getting some playoff contender buzz this off season. Unfortunately, most likely another loss unless the Iowa defense is lights out against a very strong running attack. Iowa 5-2 heading back home.

Northwestern @ Kinnick
Iowa is going to be either angry or on fire for this game. Most likely angry after back to back losses on the road and will come out firing. The 'Cats don't have a chance. Iowa is now 6-2.

Illinois @ Illinois
Lovie Smith made strides last year and I like Lovie. Iowa still wins this one. I am hearing nothing but positive out of Iowa City since the tweet storm earlier and this team is going to be motivated all year. 7-2

Nebraska @ Kinnick
Huck the Fuskers. Scott Frost only takes losses when the black and gold are involved. 8-2.

Purdue @ Purdue
I'm taking this game as the road upset. Iowa will get one out Purdue, OSU, and Penn St. This is the low hanging fruit of the three. Purdue will be focusing on their passing attack with two very good recievers in Moore and Bell. Iowa will shut them down. 9-2.

Wisconsin @ Kinnick
At this point Iowa is in the hunt for the West and Badgers are coming to Kinnick. Probably a 9-6 or 14-10 win for Iowa. Finish 10-2.

Summary
Some people will call this list optimistic with a first year QB. I am not concerned about the QB. Coach Kirk always churns out good, not great, QB talent. As long as Petras doesn't give games away we will be fine at QB. Looking at the rest of the depth chart there is a lot to be excited about. Brandon Smith, Ihmir Smith-Marsette, and Nico Raigini at WR? Yes, please. Shaun Beyer returning at TE with Goodson and Sargent in the backfield? Tell me more. And on defense? Give me Gholston and Niemann leading the front 7 all day. Koerner, Moss, and Hankins in the defensive backfield should get everyone excited. And on special teams? Duncan is back for his senior year and Smith-Marsette is returning kicks. LFG boys!!! Let's have ourselves a season.
