Trump supporters are stupid
So, I recently saw a Facebook post that explained why liberals think Trump supporters are stupid. It proceeds to explain all the reasons orange man is bad while citing several articles to support each claim. I decided, just for shits and giggles, to check them out. Before we start, I am not arguing that President Trump is a good man and a great example of character, I'm just gonna point out why these stories are skewed and do not represent the whole truth and the conclusion that people think Trump supporters are stupid because their either stupid or something worse is bullshit.
Here's the post (I'm gonna address each link as we go italics is the post plain is me)
THIS WAS ON A FRIEND’S PAGE: An anguished question from a Trump supporter: ‘Why do liberals think Trump supporters are stupid?’
THE SERIOUS ANSWER: Here’s what the majority of anti-Trump voters honestly feel about Trump supporters en masse:
That when you saw a man who had owned a fraudulent University, intent on scamming poor people, you thought "Fine." (https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/onpolitics/2018/04/10/trump-university-settlement-judge-finalized/502387002/)
A simple google search reveals that there was never an actual university ran by Trump or any of his companies. He had a real estate seminar entitled "Trump University" that people paid to attend to learn about real estate from a guy that made a lot of money in real estate. People didn't get rich and sued him. He settled without admitting fault to make it go away when he was elected. This happens daily. Pyramid schemes, real estate seminars, diet plans, the list goes on and on. I could not find a single article that explained how this was fraudulent.
That when you saw a man who had made it his business practice to stiff his creditors, you said, "Okay." (https://www.thedailybeast.com/trump-hotel-paid-millions-in-fines-for-unpaid-work)
Ok.... so did the google thing on this one too and got lots of noise and "allegedly" used alot but no proof of anything. Also, everyone in this article said they got paid, just not as fast as they wanted.
That when you heard him proudly brag about his own history of sexual abuse, you said, "No problem." (https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/list-trumps-accusers-allegations-sexual-misconduct/story?id=51956410)
If Trump supporters are stupid for supporting him after reading this then how dumb are Biden supporters? The Tara Reade allegations are significantly worse and have more collaboration than anyone or anything on this list. This is an obvious hit piece from a biased organization and it has no proof of anything. On top of that, almost every person on this list has witnesses that say it didn't happen or refused to be interviewed. At this point I would like to reiterate that I am not arguing that Trump is great moral person, I am mocking shitty reporting. The mocking shitty reporting is kinda my thing if you have read any of my other blogs.
That when he made up stories about seeing Muslim-Americans in the thousands cheering the destruction of the World Trade Center, you said, "Not an issue." (https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/fact-checker/wp/2015/11/22/donald-trumps-outrageous-claim-that-thousands-of-new-jersey-muslims-celebrated-the-911-attacks/)
I will give ya guys this one with a brief caveat. If the standard of proof for the previous article were applied to this statement from Trump then you have to believe him. He said it and there's a couple allegedly stories in there so it's true, right? Sarcasm aside, Trump is obviously prone to exaggeration and hyperbole and this is a classic example of that. As I have said before, I'm not arguing that Trump is a good person, but people need to understand, the majority people that voted for him didn't think he was so hammering down on stories that attack his character is a waste of time. He is not a good person, everyone knows that.
That when you saw him brag that he could shoot a man on Fifth Avenue and you wouldn't care, you exclaimed, "He sure knows me." (https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2019/10/23/president-donald-trump-could-shoot-someone-without-prosecution/4073405002/)
I kinda feel like this one has been beat to death already but I will address it briefly. I voted for Trump and if he shot a guy on 5th Avenue he should go to jail. That being said, the media beat this to death knowing it was a metaphor and stories like this are big reason why the previous story on the list didn't have much of an impact. The media has hammered every little thing that could be construed as possibly bad so hard that the majority of Americans either ignore them or accept them based solely on the headline without ever reading the story or doing any independent fact checking. It's 2020 folks, Google is easy to use, don't believe anything CNN, Fox News, MSNBC, or OAN says.
That when you heard him relating a story of an elderly guest of his country club, an 80-year old man, who fell off a stage and hit his head, to Trump replied: “‘Oh my God, that’s disgusting,’ and I turned away. I couldn’t—you know, he was right in front of me, and I turned away. I didn’t want to touch him. He was bleeding all over the place. And I felt terrible, because it was a beautiful white marble floor, and now it had changed color. Became very red.” You said, "That's cool!" (https://www.gq.com/story/donald-trump-howard-stern-story)
I never heard anyone say this was cool but context is important. My kid threw himself off the end of a dock when he was three trying to throw rocks in. It was a horribly scary situation at the time. He ended up standing up with his head above water and was fine and now it's a funny story. Trump was on a comedy show trying to be funny, did he succeed? I would say no, but context people.
That when you saw him mock the disabled, you thought it was the funniest thing you ever saw. (https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2016-election/donald-trump-criticized-after-he-appears-mock-reporter-serge-kovaleski-n470016)
Smoke and mirrors. Supposed journalists telling us what Trump was thinking. How do they know what his intent was? That being said, once the reporter's condition was explained to him, he apologized and said he was unaware of the reporter's condition and was not mocking him specifically. There is no proof either way other than "journalists" that "know" what Trump was thinking.
That when you heard him brag that he doesn't read books, you said, "Well, who has time?" (https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2018/01/americas-first-post-text-president/549794/)
This is news? Who can read this so called "article" and come away with the take that Trump doesn't read books? This is a hit piece based on an unsourced book that implies Trump can't read. I thought I was already familiar with most of the slanted bullshit around Trump but this was a new one. I'm glad it was on the list because I enjoy laughing at horribly written articles disguised as news. I'm going to get on a little bit of a soapbox here. THERE IS A MIDDLE GROUND. You can believe the Trump is the worst president in the history of presidents and still call this type of bullshit article pretending to be news bullshit. Just because you agree with Fox News' overall position you don't have to agree with everything they publish. (Deep breath) More on this later, back to the list.
That when the Central Park Five were compensated as innocent men convicted of a crime they didn't commit, and he angrily said that they should still be in prison, you said, "That makes sense." (https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2019/06/19/what-trump-has-said-central-park-five/1501321001/)
So I have been at this for about 2 hours now, by far the longest time I have put into one blog, and I am horribly uninformed about this case and don't have the time/energy to really research it. At face value, it's probably a bad take by Trump. That being said (I will elaborate more later) just because someone voted for Trump does not mean they agree with him 100% of the time.
That when you heard him tell his supporters to beat up protesters and that he would hire attorneys, you thought, "Yes!" (https://www.latimes.com/politics/la-na-trump-campaign-protests-20160313-story.html)
Once again, a great headline designed for the majority of people that only read headlines and then either accept it as true or dismiss it as false without reading it. If you read the article, Trump offered to cover legal fees for people who defended themselves and/or him from physical attack. The "reporter" makes the jump that Trump was obviously referring to the guy who sucker punched a protester being drug out by cops. Trump did say they were looking at that guy's case, but did not say he would help him. The only legal fees he offered to cover were ones incurred in self defense. Is it the best look? No. Is it what the headline says? Also no.
That when you heard him tell one rally to confiscate a man's coat before throwing him out into the freezing cold, you said, "What a great guy!" (https://www.independent.co.uk/news/people/donald-trump-orders-protesters-coat-is-confiscated-and-he-is-sent-into-the-cold-a6802756.html)
Apparently Trump is not a nice guy. Yup, agreed. Also, keep in mind that this criticism is from the same party whose presumptive nominee feels like "lying dog faced pony soldier" is an appropriate descriptor for someone protesting his campaign. I'm not saying this to justify Trump's behavior, just pointing out it goes both ways and only one side gets punished for it. The side that gets punished depends on whether your favorite flavor of bullshit is CNN or Fox News.
That you have watched the parade of neo-Nazis and white supremacists with whom he curries favor, while refusing to condemn outright Nazis, and you have said, "Thumbs up!" (https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2018/08/why-cant-trump-just-condemn-nazis/567320/)
I'm also going to be brief, Trump is not a racist. You can disagree with his policies, character, decisions, tweets, and whatever but he is not a racist. There is 40 plus years of him being in the public eye with absolutely no hint of anyone even mentioning that he could be racist until he ran for president as a Republican. This is such a bullshit argument that anyone with 2 brain cells should dismiss it.
That you hear him unable to talk to foreign dignitaries without insulting their countries and demanding that they praise his electoral win, you said, "That's the way I want my President to be." (https://www.huffpost.com/entry/trump-insult-foreign-countries-leaders_n_59dd2769e4b0b26332e76d57)
Running out of steam here, but yes, Trump is blunt and straightforward to the point of coming across as rude.
That you have watched him remove expertise from all layers of government in favor of people who make money off of eliminating protections in the industries they're supposed to be regulating and you have said, "What a genius!" (https://www.politico.com/agenda/story/2017/12/29/138-trump-policy-changes-2017-000603)
This is the first legitimate news article on the list. I was running out of steam until I came across this gem. I mean, you have to wonder if this made the list by mistake? This is a well written, well sourced article that lays out what happened. There is some bias in their analysis, but they are very clear on the separation between fact and opinion. I'm not saying their right about everything, but finding an article on this list that was actually a well written explanation of facts was quite the refresher. For all my friends that dislike Trump and have friends they want to change sides, drop the rest of this list and just use this article. I spend an unhealthy amount of time reading about this stuff so it won't work on me, but probably will on most people.
That you have heard him continue to profit from his businesses, in part by leveraging his position as President, to the point of overcharging the Secret Service for space in the properties he owns, and you have said, "That's smart!" (https://www.usnews.com/opinion/articles/2018-03-05/how-is-donald-trump-profiting-from-the-presidency-let-us-count-the-ways)
Alright, at this point I'm mostly skimming but this article seems to condemn Trump for doing what Biden did in Ukraine and Haiti? I don't know enough to say whether or not that's illegal, but it seems like the same type of setup and Biden gets a pass.
That you have heard him say that it was difficult to help Puerto Rico because it was in the middle of water and you have said, "That makes sense." (https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/politics/wp/2017/09/26/the-very-big-ocean-between-here-and-puerto-rico-is-not-a-perfect-excuse-for-a-lack-of-aid/)
This is a pretty ignorant inclusion on the list considering that since this story was published half of Puerto Rico's government has either resigned, been indicted, or both on corruption charges related to using relief supplies for profit. That aside, this is a true statement, logistics for getting things to an island in the middle of an ocean is a lot different from loading up trucks and sending them to Texas.
That you have seen him start fights with every country from Canada to New Zealand while praising Russia and quote, "falling in love" with the dictator of North Korea, and you have said, "That's statesmanship!" (https://www.cnn.com/2019/07/02/politics/donald-trump-dictators-kim-jong-un-vladimir-putin/index.html)
Blah, blah, blah. See the comments on the three previous articles on this list in the same theme.
That Trump separated children from their families and put them in cages, managed to lose track of 1500 kids, has opened a tent city incarceration camp in the desert in Texas - he explains that they’re just “animals” - and you say, “Well, OK then.” (https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/more-5-400-children-split-border-according-new-count-n1071791)
I feel that including this on the list indicates a willful ignorance of the real world. This was an extension of a policy Obama implemented and completely disregards the fact that parents who break the law are separated from their kids on a daily basis across the US.
That you have witnessed all the thousand and one other manifestations of corruption and low moral character and outright animalistic rudeness and contempt for you, the working American voter, and you still show up grinning and wearing your MAGA hats and threatening to beat up anybody who says otherwise. (https://www.americanprogress.org/issues/democracy/reports/2018/06/04/451570/confronting-cost-trumps-corruption-american-families/)
If this article had been first on the list I probably would of been slightly more intrigued, but I find it hard to believe that any of this is illegal. With the current state of the House the only reason he hasn't been impeached if this is illegal is because everyone in DC is doing the same thing on both sides of the aisle.
What you don't get, Trump supporters, is that our succumbing to frustration and shaking our heads, thinking of you as stupid, may very well be wrong and unhelpful, but it's also...hear me...charitable.
Because if you're NOT stupid, we must turn to other explanations, and most of them are less flattering.

Whew, that was a ride, I probably have close to 3 hours of reading and fact checking and typing at this point but wow. This last line about the other options being less flattering is a doozy. Allow me to offer an alternative in summary. I was not a Trump guy. If, during the summer of 2016, you would of gave me a list of 10 possible Republican nominees I would of probably put Trump as my tenth choice. The problem was the Democrats put the least electable nominee since Mondale against him. I would literally vote for AOC, Pelosi, Schumer, and Schiff before I would vote for Hillary as president. Then, when she lost, the media lost their minds. I was never a huge Trump guy and just voted for him because he wasn't Hillary. Now, people are forcing me to defend Trump and be a Trump guy because the illogical, irrational, incredibly biased bullshit they call news forces most rational human beings to realize they are making shit up at this point. Trump is the most liberal Republican to be President in living memory. Bill and Hillary loved the Donald right up until he announced his candidacy. If the left would have treated him like a normal president, Rand Paul would be currently running against him in the primary. Instead, Rand Paul, and others like him are put in the position where they have to defend Trump because of the baseless bullshit they keep throwing at him. (Sorry this devolved into an anti-CNN piece, I will hit Fox News next time) This is why I keep screaming in several of my blogs that there is a middle ground. The media has the current political climate so polarized that it is impossible to say Trump is not a racist without being labeled an ignorant right winger that thinks Trump walks on water. You also cannot say Trump has a bad idea with being labeled as a tree hugging commie that want the US to die. There is a middle ground where you don't agree with everything Trump does but thinks he is doing a good job. There is a middle ground where you can think Trump is doing a terrible job but still understand he isn't a racist that rapes women for fun in his free time. That being said, I think the greatest irony of lists like this is that they create more support for Trump as opposed to less because of the utter ridiculousness included. Don't watch the news, listen to local guidelines, listen to the CDC, and wash your hands because we need sports back so there is something to distract us from the shit show that is Washington, DC and the political machine.
