Home schoolers are white supremicists said some idiot...
Ahhh Monday, another day that is the same as all the other ones. I was contemplating slowing down on the writing but thanks to the idiots of the world and the wonders of the internet there is no shortage of things to be angry about. (Side note: sometime in the future, current projections are April 2021, I will be doing sports as well.) Today, we have the prestigious idiots at Haaaaaaaarvard stating that home schooling should be illegal because of white supremacists. This is prime example of people disconnected from reality and also oblivious to timing. Whoever thinks that questioning the effectiveness of home schooling while the entire country is home schooling is a special kind of idiot. Now to the quotes. The summit brings together a number of “experts” from across the spectrum to discuss the “problems of educational deprivation and child maltreatment that too often occur under the guise of homeschooling, in a legal environment of minimal or no oversight.” Ok. Alot to unpack here. One, I love that experts is in quotes. That's gold. Two, educational deprivation and child maltreatment? Does this happen? Yes. Does it happen in public schools? Yes. Does it happen to kids that attend public schools but have troubled homes? Yes. This is probaly the most sane statement made and applying the argument evenly across the board means we should probaly just outlaw schools and parents while we are at it. Next quote we start going off the rails. “That means, effectively, that people can homeschool who’ve never gone to school themselves, who don’t read or write themselves.” Woah. That's special. Apparently home schooling is so unregulated that you can teach your kids without knowing how to read. Ima call bullshit on that one. Most states have requirements for homeschooling that require students to take standardized tests i.e. being able to read. And here's the big winner. “[S]urveys of homeschoolers show that a majority of such families (by some estimates, up to 90 percent) are driven by conservative Christian beliefs, and seek to remove their children from mainstream culture,” Harvard Magazine warns. “Bartholet notes that some of these parents are ‘extreme religious ideologues’ who question science and promote female subservience and white supremacy.” Ok, let me try one. Studies show that most violence in Chicago is caused by African American males in gangs so therefore African American males should not be allowed to purchase guns. If anyone attemted to say the second one they would be crucified as a racist by the media. However generalizing about Christians is perfectly okay. It's hypocritical and ridiculous and should have no place in any institution of higher learning. Are there extremists home schooling there kids? Yes. Does this mean the whole system is faulty? Nope. So in closing, don't watch the news, stay home as much as you can, wash your hands, and listen to anything following "The CDC recommends" because if I can't watch Hawkeye RBs just carving up defenses this fall I may lose my mind.
This gem from the article also out for me: Bartholet says they are places of miracles. Children who attend public school “grow up exposed to community values, social values, democratic values, ideas about nondiscrimination and tolerance of other people’s viewpoints.”
