Breaking news, Iowa will resume athletic practices June 1, including football!!! This is the first set in stone we are going to have sports date announced since they started cancelling shit. I just got done with a 12 hour shift and saw this amd I am pumped. This isn't a proposed plan. This isn't a "we are hopeful that" statement. This is a concrete date for starting normal. I don't care that there might not be fans present. I don't care that this might change if the situation changes. All I care right now is that THE University of Iowa will be starting practice June 1st. This means we have saved Coach Kirk's mental health. This means we are winning. Great job everyone (except those listed in the Covidiots blog series) we are gonna have football this fall. Now don't start slacking on the social distancing now. Please. Do not ruin this. We are going to have football. So don't watch the news, stay home, wash your hands, and listen to the CDC because we cannot fail now. WE HAVE FOOTBALL!!!

The 61 year old potato farmer that stunned the world.

Ladies and gentlemen, sit back and hear the story of  Cliff Young . He has seemed to enter the realm of half myth, half truth that surrounds all greats but his story is remarkable. Full disclosure: I got this story from a guest pastor at church Sunday. Here we go.  In 1983, people were gathered for the Australia ultra marathon. A 543 mile race from Sydney to Melbourne. Most competitors were in their twenties or thirties and had extensive training and corporate sponserships. Into this group walked a 61 year old man wearing faded overalls and rubber work boots. His name was Cliff Young. He was a sheep and potato farmer from just outside Melbourne. Most considered him a joke at best, delusional at worst. Several journalists questioned if he would survive. This is where the myth/truth comes into play. Some accounts have him running in overalls. Others say he wore windbreakers with holes cut by hand for ventilation. B1G has cancelled football.

 The B1G and PAC 12 have cancelled fall sports.  Here  is the B1G official statement. I have been thinking about this and getting steadily more upset ever since 1:45 PM. This is horrible. I have avoided really shitting on the COVID-19 media coverage too much because I didn't want to deal with the trolling and "yOu THinK cOroNavIruS iS faKe IF yOu qUEstioN anYthIng!" crowd. I am done. Bring on the trolls. This decision has nothing to do with the coronavirus. The B1G, as a whole, is not concerned about player safety per coronavirus. Nothing has changed in the overall COVID-19 numbers between when they announced the season schedule and when they cancelled. The schedule was announced August 5. Per the  CDC report release July 31  hospitalization rate was 130.1 per 100,000 and mortality rate was 8.4% if you include pneumonia, influenza, and COVID-19 deaths.
